The Last Morningstar – sounds from the tundra
by Jeremei Aipin
“We humans can not understand ourselves. We cannot understand the time we live in nor do we realise the future if we do not have the knowledge of our past and history. This history can be really sad and cold. It can reflect to our future in a bad way. But still our job is to find ourselves.”
The Last Morningstar is based on a Jeremei Aipin´s novel Khanty, a beautiful and epic story of the forgotten Khanty-nation under the pressure of Soviet Union and oil industry. This theatrical monologue lets Khanty-people talk their talk, the talk of the destroyed families and broken people.
Through it we can hear beautiful sounds of the Siberian taiga, the silent whisper of indigeneous peoples way of life. By the help of their philosophy and old believes it is possible to get a glimpse of hope as a “global human being”.
Jeremei Aipin is a recognized author in Russia. He was also a Duma Representative of the Autonomous Region of Khandy-Mansi and the head of the Nordic Indigeneous Peoples´ Assembly. His novel “The Mother of God of the Bloody snow” even made its way to the movie theatres in Russia and Baltic. The Saga of the Khantys told the tale of the uprisal of the Nordic indigenous peoples against the Soviet rule.
The Last Morningstar will have its world premiere in September 2011 in Kokkola, Finland. After that the performance will head for a world tour.
