HEART, SHOUT! – SYDÄN, HUUDA!
Heart, Shout! (Sydän, huuda!)
” Tänään MINÄ,
Valkoinen Vasa,
Rakastun laittomasti
LUKOILin mailla ”
– Yuri Vella
The forest Nenets Yuri Vella (1948-2013), who lived in the areas of plenty of rivers of the Western Siberia, is one of the brightest writers of Russia's minority peoples. Vella’s texts deal with the history and current everyday life of the northern native nations with a keen eye and warm humor. In addition to the traditional way of life, the texts highlight the consequences of the expanding oil and gas industry in the daily lives of indigenous people.
Ruska Ensemble’s artists create a performing art work in which the beautiful poetry of Yuri Vella is interpreted by the power of the accordion, violin, vocals and sparkling speech. Heart, shout! is a tribute to the great poet and activist of the relative nation. The work is a greeting to the underworld, but also a speech on behalf of the Arctic indigenous people.
The Finnish premiere is in Kokkola City Theatre, on September 9th, 2020. Tickets sold here.
The Russian premiere is in Yoskhar-Ola, on September 30th, 2020.
